Your mental health is so important, it’s arguably one of the most important aspects of your overall health to look after. When your mental health is being looked after, you’ll find yourself feeling more positive, more energised and simply put, happy! If you aren’t looking after your mental health, you may find yourself feeling sluggish, getting ill more often and having a negative outlook on life.
Looking after your mental health can be done in many ways – you can work on your sleep (Bee’s Knees Wellness can help with this if you need supplements) you can start to exercise more, concentrate on your diet as well as enjoy a hobby.
Below we look into three ways to help look after your mental health:
Work on Your Physical Health
Your physical health has a direct effect on your mental health. Regular exercise can help improve your energy levels, help reduce the chances of getting ill as well as improve the way your brain functions. You should aim for around 150 minutes of exercise a week and to achieve this you can do it through sports or solo exercises like running or swimming.
If you have a friend who is looking to get fit, why not exercise with them as this will help improve your motivation?
Enjoy a Hobby
It’s important to have a hobby in life as hobbies provide many benefits to your overall health. Not only does a hobby help reduce stress, but it also helps your creativity and boosts your confidence on top of the mental health benefits.
A hobby can be based on anything you enjoy doing, it can be painting, playing chess, cooking, cocktail making, video games, reading a book and more. Aim to enjoy a hobby for a few hours of week and see what benefits it brings to you.
Concentrate on Your Diet
What is your diet like? Do you eat a healthy diet and manage to consume five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day or do you find yourself eating unhealthy? Depending on what your diet is like, this could be an area to concentrate on if you are trying to improve your mental health.
Write a food diary for the week and keep track of everything you eat from when you wake up to when you go to sleep. By doing this, you can analyse what you are eating to know where you can make improvements – for example, aiming to eat more fruit. If you struggle to eat vegetables, a great tip is to incorporate them in your sauces. An example of this is adding carrots and peas into your spaghetti bolognese sauce, as this way you don’t realise you are eating them.
