The Latest in Nootropics at a Glance: The Top Five Most Interesting Products Right Now

Whether you take nootropics yourself or not, it’s difficult to deny that this is a very interesting field. The prospect of being able to enhance your cognition beyond what the brain is naturally capable of is an exciting prospect, and with new research coming out all the time, it’s easy to get lost in the topic.

In this short article, you’ll get a rundown of the most interesting nootropics on the market today.

1. Noopept

Noopept is a type of synthetic peptide thought to stimulate a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This protein is a key component of memory and learning, and people who take noopept tell of significant improvements in these areas. Some research exploring these mechanisms has also suggested the Noopept may be useful as an anti-inflamatory.

Noopept starts working immediately, so you don’t have to build up a base as is the case with other types of nootropics.

2. Moringa

Moringa (full name moringa oleifera) is becoming increasingly popular for its purported multifactorial effects, such as reducing oxidative stress and improving memory.

Often referred to as the “drumstick tree,” the plant originates in South Asia and Africa. From a purely nutritional standpoint, it’s rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and it also contains high levels of polyphenols which help to bring down chronic inflammation in the body. A recent study in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences referred to it as having superfood properties.

3. Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Even if you’re unfamiliar with nootropics, you’ve probably heard of Lion’s Mane. Known both for its distinct, hair-like appearance and for research suggesting it may be useful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, this special mushroom continues to be a hot topic of discussion within the community.

Consumption is thought to improve memory and reduce brain fog, and you can purchase it in capsules and tinctures for convenience.

4. Citicoline

Citicoline is quite uncommon in that it’s a nootropic that already occurs naturally in the body; this compound plays an important role in energy metabolism in the brain, and when taken as a supplement, it may have further neuroprotective effects. It’s also thought to improve visual working memory.

Given an already-established efficacy, Citicoline represents one of the most exciting areas of nootropics to date.

5. Phenylpiracetam

Phenylpiracetam, as the name suggests, is part of the racetam family of nootropics. It’s one of the most popular central nervous systems stimulators available, and is thought to increase a person’s reaction times, mental acuity, and physical endurance.

As is the case with many nootropics, its mechanisms are not fully understood, but with more research undoubtedly on the horizon in the future, it certainly seems promising.

Wrapping Up

The world of nootropics is vast and can be confusing at times, but that’s also part of what makes it so intriguing. It’s important to note that the information provided in this article is purely for investigatory purposes: if you plan on taking any of the above products yourself, always consult a qualified doctor first.
