How Long Does CBD Stay in Your System?

Cannabidiol, known as CBD, usually stays in your system for 2 to 5 days on average. However, this is no concrete time period, as CBD is fat-soluble. Multiple factors have an effect on how long CBD might stay in your system (which can be up to a few weeks). These factors can be the amount of CBD used, the frequency of consumption, how well your body reacts to CBD, your method of administration, and more. Let’s get into more details.

Factors Affecting How Long CBD Lasts in Your System

The Amount of CBD Used

The more you use CBD, the longer it’ll take to get out of the system. This holds true for any other substance that you consume.

How Often You Use It

As an occasional CBD user, it shouldn’t take too long to get rid of the CBD in your system. However, if you consume CBD regularly, it might take longer. As you go on consuming CBD on a regular basis, it continues building up in your system. This is why you’re able to truly feel the effects of CBD after consuming it for a week or two. This build-up, however, lingers in the body and takes longer to clear.

Your Body

Everybody reacts differently to CBD or any other substance that they consume. The body mass, metabolism, and water content, all have a direct connection with how long CBD stays in the system.

Method of Administration

The type of CBD you use and the way you consume it is another factor that plays an important role here.  Starting off with smokes and CBD vapes, these are perfect for an almost immediate effect but a short-lived one. In this case, CBD leaves the body early and easily.

On the other hand, products like sublingual oils, CBD tinctures and CBD sprays work differently. While these also take effect almost immediately (within minutes), these also have a long-lasting effect on the consumer. The CBD is placed under the tongue to be absorbed into the bloodstream. The effects of CBD are long-lasting.

In the case of edibles, the CBD takes longer to settle in and just as long to be cleared out. Edibles like gummies, chocolate bars or brownies must be digested before the CBD is released into the bloodstream.

Finally, you can find transdermal topicals like salves or lotions and transdermal patches which deliver the CBD into the system very slowly and does take just as long to be cleared out completely. Not all topicals are capable of delivering CBD into the bloodstream, most only work on the surface or get absorbed in the layers of the skin.

If You Are Consuming CBD on an Empty Stomach

This pertains to CBD products that require digestion. Taking CBD on an empty stomach quickens the process of metabolization and elimination. On the other hand, consuming CBD post a meal can slow down the process. Consuming high-fat foods can also increase the amount of CBD in the body, leading to slower elimination of the substance from your system.

Irrespective of the kind of CBD product you want, you can find the most suitable products at the Online CBD Store or other licensed retail stores.
