Herbs are great for adding flavor to your food – that spaghetti sauce would be nothing without the basil- but did you know that herbs can have a really positive impact on your health too?

Using natural remedies often gets a bad rap, but there are several herbs which have been shown to improve health, including the following:

1. CBD: Not Your Garden Variety Herb

It’s the cool kid on the block in the world of herbal healthcare, showing up everywhere from beauty products to pet treats. But what exactly is it? CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis that won’t get you high—that’s THC’s job—but might just lift your spirits in other ways according to some research and tons of anecdotal evidence. People use it for everything from soothing anxiety to reducing inflammation. It’s like the multi-tool of herbs: versatile and handy, minus the risk of leaving it in your carry-on at the airport.

2. Turmeric: The Golden Spice of Life

Next, let’s spice things up with turmeric. This bright yellow spice isn’t just for curries and staining your favorite shirt; it’s a powerhouse of health benefits. Thanks to curcumin, its active ingredient, turmeric is a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Whether you’re battling aches or just went too hard at the gym, a little turmeric can help soothe those muscles, making you feel like you’ve got a reset button for your body.

3. Ginger: Your Stomach’s Best Friend

Ever wonder why mom handed you ginger ale when your stomach was doing somersaults? Ginger isn’t just a zesty addition to meals; it’s a digestive aid that’s been calming bellies since ancient times. It can help ease nausea, settle upset stomachs, and even kick motion sickness to the curb. So next time your tummy’s in turmoil, skip the soda and reach for real ginger. Your gut will thank you.

4. Ginkgo Biloba: The Brain Booster

If you ever feel like your brain is more “fog” than “fab,” ginkgo biloba might be your leaf of choice. Known for its brain-boosting properties, this ancient herb is popular among those looking to improve focus, memory, and even mood. Think of it as nature’s nootropic, or a cup of coffee without the jitters.

5. Lavender: Not Just a Pretty Flower

Last on our list, but certainly not least, is lavender. Famous for its calming scent, lavender is a go-to for anyone looking to relax, unwind, or get a better night’s sleep. Whether you’re diffusing essential oils, sipping tea, or sprinkling it on your pillow, lavender is like a spa day for your senses, without the hefty price tag.

Conclusion

As you can see, herbal remedies are not just old wives’ tales that will not do anything other than offer you a placebo (and any the placebo effect has real value) but they are very effective remedies that can help you with all kinds of issues. Just be sure to talk to your doctor first if you are taking any other medications as herbs can react with your meds.

I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound to potentially look for breast cancer…and boy did this cause some scanxiety!Good news! There’s no lumps, bumps, cysts, tumors, etc. my tests are normal. So why did I flunk my first mammogram? It could have been a glitch. Or…Hormones can cause breast tissue to be slightly different from week to week or scan to scan, which is why they suggest not doing your scan the week before your period (which is when I got scanned). It can be hard for women to avoid that week though when appointments are often made months in advance.Either way, I’ll be back next year for my 3rd mammogram. I hope you’ll remember to schedule yours.#breastcancer #mammogram #annualmammogram #scanxiety #perimenopausehealth #womenover40
