Quick Fixes To Help You Manage Stress And Lift Your Mood

A global survey suggests that over 40% of adults experience significant stress. Stress levels are rising, but there are ways to manage stress effectively. In this handy guide, we’ll share some quick fixes to help you tackle stress and lift your mood.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best natural tonics for better mental health. This proven stress-buster enhances both physical and mental well-being in the short and long term. If you’re feeling stressed, or you’ve had a bad day, even a short burst of activity will make you feel better. You might not feel like going to the gym, training or doing an exercise class if you’re tired or overwhelmed, but moving your body is a tried and tested remedy.

Walk or cycle home from work, go to the gym, do a workout at home, play team sports or put some music on and dance around the kitchen. Go for a run, do a yoga class or take a trip to the local tennis courts or golf course. If your heart rate surges and your muscles are working, you’ll experience a natural high that will boost your mood and make you feel less stressed. Experts recommend 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

Play Games and Do Puzzles

Playing games and doing puzzles is a brilliant way to distract yourself from stressors, decompress after work and keep your gray matter ticking over. From spider solitaire and sudoku to crosswords, video games and online word searches, there are plenty of games to choose from. Find friends online, challenge relatives or colleagues or play alone. You can download apps or access websites at the touch of a button. Social media platforms are also great for finding new games and connecting with players with shared interests.

Meditate

Meditation can help you target stress, relax, improve your concentration skills and embrace a more positive mindset. The beauty of meditation is that you can do it anywhere at any time. Even if you only have a few minutes between meetings, you can meditate to help you focus, combat stress and feel happier and calmer. There are lots of ways to meditate, including using guided meditation apps, going to group sessions or doing independent meditations.

Interact with Others

Being around others can make us feel good, even on a tough day. If you’ve had a stressful day, or you’re going through a difficult time, lean on those close to you to help you cope. Call a friend for a catch-up, ask your work colleague if they want to grab a coffee or message your partner. It takes seconds to send and read text messages, emails and comments on social media. It’s also a brilliant idea to be open to meeting new people and making friends. You can do this online, which is increasingly popular, or through joining local classes, groups and clubs.

Get Some Fresh Air

Going outside and getting fresh air is a sensory experience, which can invigorate your body and mind. Whether it’s the summer and you enjoy feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, or it’s freezing and you feel the harsh hit of the winter wind on your face, it’s beneficial to spend time outdoors. Make time every day to get some fresh air and appreciate the beauty of nature around you. Even if you live in the center of the city, you won’t be too far from green spaces, such as parks and gardens. Stretching your legs in the great outdoors can give you a burst of energy and enthusiasm.

Laugh

They say that laughter is the best medicine. Laughing can’t fix every problem, but if you’re battling mild stress, or you’re not in the most positive headspace, smiling and giggling can make you feel better. Do something that will make you laugh. This may mean watching a video clip on social media or your favorite TV show, calling a friend who always makes you laugh or reading some jokes.

You might want to listen to a funny podcast, read a book or watch a comedian perform, or you may simply want to while away five minutes watching dogs skateboarding or cats jumping out on their owners on your phone. No matter what makes you chuckle, having a laugh will lift your spirits.

Be Proactive

Stress affects all of us. When you feel stressed, it’s beneficial to know what to do to ease your worries, induce calm and lift your mood. Simple, quick fixes can have a big impact. Examples include doing exercise, meditating and playing games and puzzles. Interacting with others, laughing and spending time outside can also be hugely beneficial. Next time you spot the signs of stress, try these speedy solutions.

I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound to potentially look for breast cancer…and boy did this cause some scanxiety!Good news! There’s no lumps, bumps, cysts, tumors, etc. my tests are normal. So why did I flunk my first mammogram? It could have been a glitch. Or…Hormones can cause breast tissue to be slightly different from week to week or scan to scan, which is why they suggest not doing your scan the week before your period (which is when I got scanned). It can be hard for women to avoid that week though when appointments are often made months in advance.Either way, I’ll be back next year for my 3rd mammogram. I hope you’ll remember to schedule yours.#breastcancer #mammogram #annualmammogram #scanxiety #perimenopausehealth #womenover40
