Anxiety is a feeling that comes from stress. Any kind of uncertainty, challenges, fears, health issues, or disturbing events can generate anxiety.

At a primary level, anxiety is quite natural as it pushes us to do better in the face of challenging situations. However, when it becomes extreme and haunts a person consistently for a long time, that is when it becomes a serious disorder and needs proper medical attention.

Anxiety, in its various forms, is prevalent among adolescents.  According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), almost one-third of all teenagers (aged 13 to 18) experience anxiety disorder. Reasons like high expectations in their career, unregulated use of social media, problematic relationships, and the increase in hostilities around the world contribute to the development of anxiety issues among teenagers.

Besides harming their studies and productivity, persistent or chronic anxiety can lead the young minds towards depression, addiction, and suicidal tendencies.

How Can CBD Help with Anxiety?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the major cannabinoids of Cannabis Sativa species. CBD extracted from the hemp form of the Cannabis sativa plant is considered a non-psychoactive and useful natural substance capable of treating several of our health issues.

Since the occurrence of anxiety depends on the state of our health, underlying physical and mental issues, and our coping abilities, it can be managed if we take care of all such problems. In this article, we are going to look at how CBD can help teenagers prevent and fight anxiety.

CBD Can Improve Mood

Due to stress coming from personal and academic spheres, teenagers become irritated and hostile. The failure to improve their mood at primary levels can lead to severe anxiety issues.

CBD engages with the serotonin and adenosine receptors in the human body to reduce stress and enhance mood.  According to studies, CBD promotes restfulness and holds excellent benefits for stress-related mood disorders.

CBD Improves Sleep

Lack of sleep is a major symptom of an anxious mind. When teenagers go through a lot of stress, they are unable to fall asleep. Inadequate sleep leads to further complications, making the teenagers weaker and irritated.

Having the required amount of sleep helps to destress the body and also makes the teenager stronger physically and mentally. Sleep also helps to make the body more immune and prevent diseases that are often related to anxiety, such as high blood pressure, agitation, lack of concentration, etc.

According to studies, CBD from reputed online dispensary canada causes a calming effect in the central nervous system and drastically improves sleep scores of individuals with anxiety.

CBD for Nutrition

Having a balanced diet is one of the lifestyle changes that can help to lower anxiety among teenagers. Although your diet is not a treatment that can cure anxiety, studies suggest that consuming nutritional food is one of the best practices to reduce the impact of anxiety.

Besides drinking more water and avoiding substances like caffeine and alcohol, a balanced intake of carbohydrates, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, and antioxidants have proven to lower anxiety.

Hemp-derived full-spectrum CBD oil contains nutrients like essential fatty acids and vitamins (including B complex vitamins). Moreover, CBD is a natural antioxidant. Therefore, regular consumption of CBD can help teenagers keep anxiety levels in check. For other questions about CBD , you can learn more here.

CBD for Controlling Addiction

It is common for teenagers who suffer from anxiety to self-medicate themselves with addictive substances. It is one of the ways people use to cope with anxiety disorders. Interestingly, addiction can be both the cause and result of anxiety.

The endocannabinoid system in the human body has receptors all over our body and brain. It regulates mood, memory, and sensation. CBD interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the ECS to influence how we react to our memories and cravings. In this way, CBD can prevent certain cravings (for drugs) and stop teenagers from going back to their addiction habits. Studies also suggest that CBD has great potential to curb opioid addiction.

CBD for Energy and Vitality

Feeling low or weak, both physically and psychologically, is one of the significant symptoms of anxiety. A teenager who is down on activities or lacks the needed energy has more chances of succumbing to pressure. On the other hand, an energetic body and mind can come out of the anguish of fear more efficiently and get involved in different activities.

The endocannabinoid system in the human body has natural cannabinoids of its own, which work all the time to maintain natural balance or homeostasis in the body. This is important to continue all the biological processes in our body.

CBD assists these ECS-produced cannabinoids in maintaining this balance, thereby increasing immunity and lowering ailments. A teenager with optimal health will be able to cope better with anxiety. He or she will also feel encouraged to involve in physical activities like workout and meditation, which will also help in keeping anxiety at bay.

CBD for Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disturbance in which a person can’t interpret reality normally. The situation often leads to delusions, hallucinations, and irrational thinking and behavior. According to medical research, around 65% of schizophrenia patients can develop anxiety symptoms. Anxiety may accompany schizophrenia as one of its components, as a result of the underlying physical condition, or as a side effect of the applied medication.

In schizophrenia, the patient goes through psychosis, a condition in which the brain processes information unrealistically. There is a pronounced relation between psychosis and CBD consumption. Research says that consuming cannabis with high CBD content can lead to lesser psychotic experiences.

By interacting with the endogenous cannabinoid system, CBD can improve cognitive deficits. Therefore, CBD can take care of anxiety associated with schizophrenia in teenagers.

CBD for PTSD

PTSD is a special kind of anxiety disorder in which people suffer from extreme fear and feel uneasy in social situations. PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder usually develops in an individual after he or she is exposed to a terrifying event or shock.

Many teenagers go through this unique anxiety disorder due to the loss of parents, fatal accidents, relationship issues, or the experience of horrifying incidents (like mass shootings). Studies suggest that CBD can help treat complex anxiety disorders such as PTSD.

The calming influence of CBD can give respite to PTSD patients by relieving them of several symptoms like mood-swings, re-experiencing traumas, nightmares, etc. By engaging with the receptors in the ECS, CBD regulates memory retrieval and blocking. So, CBD may be utilized as an effective medication for PTSD in teenagers.

CBD Dosage for Teenagers

CBD comes in various forms, such as oils, gummies, pills, vapes, drinks, and lotions. Also, among various CBD extraction methods, full-spectrum CBD oil may be the most effective since it contains most of the cannabinoids at low amounts to support the Entourage Effect.

Teenagers should begin with a modest CBD dose of around 10 mg per day. The dose can be altered according to a person’s condition and tolerance levels.

Words of Caution

According to research done to date, CBD can help with many of the situations that accompany anxiety. Moreover, on the legal side, only hemp-derived CBD that contains 0.3% or less THC is allowed in most places.

Although CBD has positive impacts on patients with anxiety, it is not a substitute for anti-anxiety medications. You should also check whether CBD will create any reaction with your existing medications.  Always monitor your body’s response during the initial days of CBD consumption and contact a medical expert if you face any complications.

Final Thoughts

Although we cannot predict anxiety attacks, we can certainly keep our health in such a state that we can cope with such situations smoothly.

The qualities mentioned above of CBD make it an excellent option to counter stress, anxiety, and related complications. Besides taking care of mental disorders, CBD can help teenagers gain a healthy body.  Additionally, CBD’s calming effect can help young people concentrate on their studies, games, and other activities.

Regular intake of CBD and the required lifestyle changes will eventually bring your teenager out of the gloomy world of anxiety and push him or her towards a brighter future.
