As most of you know, this LadyKind CBD review is not my first time trying a CBD product. In fact, I first started using THC-containing cannabis products back in 2012 and hemp-derived CBD oil back in 2015. But my experiences with cannabis go way back as a scientist. I published my first scientific journal article, on Cannabinoids and Neurogenesis, (aka how cannabinoids like CBD grow brain cells) back in 2006. Back in the day, cannabis products were easier to obtain than CBD products from California medical marijuana dispensaries. It was only recently that safe, effective hemp-based CBD products are available throughout most of the United States.
My Experience Using CBD Oil
I have a lot of chronic health issues, including fibromyalgia, anxiety, ADHD, and pelvic pain, so let’s just say anything that helps with pain and stress is my best friend. I have a hilariously low tolerance to the “high” from edible or smokable THC products, despite using them for over 15 years. For dealing with pain or anxiety during the day, CBD provides the relief I’m looking for without causing me to fall asleep at my desk or eating entire bag of potato chips. The problem is, a lot of CBD products don’t contain enough CBD to work, they contain low quality CBD (aka CBD isolate products rather than broad-spectrum CBD containing all the cannabinoids and terpenes minus THC), they have trace amounts of pesticides and heavy metals that can make you feel like crap, or they contain toxic food colorings or other additives. It’s hard to find products that are safe and effective that I want to use on the regular. Until I found Ladykind CBD!
I’ll be reviewing the “A Better Period Set” which is Ladykind’s first three CBD products. You can buy them individually, but it really makes more sense to buy the set since you’ll be using the tinctures daily and the lotion the week of your moon cycle gratuitously (and you save $24, even more with my exclusive discount below!).
What is CBD and How Does it Work?
If you’re not familiar with cannabidiol, or CBD, it’s a phytocannabinoid made in the cannabis plant, along with delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN) and many others. When the cannabis plant contains more than 0.3% THC, it’s classified in the United States as marijuana and products must be sold in cannabis dispensaries. If the cannabis plant contains less than 0.3% THC and predominately makes CBD, it’s classified as hemp and products can be sold online or in regular stores.

What is a phytocannabinoid? It’s a cannabinoid that comes from plants, whereas endocannabinoids are cannabinoids made inside your body, like anandamide or 2-AG. Phytocannabinoids works in different ways in your body, which is why consuming THC has different effects than consuming CBD. For example, THC activates cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptors very strongly, which explains why people feel a euphoria or high while using cannabis products in addition to benefits like inflammation or pain relief. CBD can boost levels of your natural endocannabinoid anandamide, which bind to CB1 receptors for more gently mood boost, focus improvement, and pain relief without the “high” associated with THC. CBD even binds to 5HT-1A serotonin receptors, which explains why so many women find it helpful for anxiety relief, better sleep, and even bigger orgasms!
What is Endocannabinoid Deficiency?
You have cannabinoid receptors throughout your brain and body, and your endocannabinoid system provides balance to all other neurotransmitter systems including dopamine, serotonin, GABA, and glutamate. When your body doesn’t make enough endocannabinoids or your cannabinoid receptors don’t work properly or there aren’t enough of them, your endocannabinoid system becomes out of balance, and symptoms like poor sleep, anxiety, lack of focus, pain, and inflammation can result. If you’d like to learn more about endocannabinoid deficiency, including signs you may have it and how to heal from it, check out my book Vitamin Weed: A 4-Step Plan to Prevent and Reverse Endocannabinoid Deficiency.
It’s important to keep your endocannabinoid system healthy, and one of the ways you can do that is by nourishing it with CBD products. CBD will increase levels of your bliss molecule, anandamide, and restore balance, whether you’re applying it to the skin as a lotion or eating it as a tincture. I truly believe most Americans suffer from an endocannabinoid deficiency, and taking CBD daily as a vitamin is one way to feel like the best version of yourself again. If you’d like to learn more about CBD, including how to make your own CBD-infused health and beauty products, check out my book CBD Oil For Health: 100 Amazing Benefits and Uses of CBD Oil.
The highest levels of anandamide, one of our endocannabinoids, are found in the female uterus. In fact, these levels of anandamide are 100 times higher than those found in the brain. We know that anandamide levels, like estrogen levels, can cycle or decrease over time. It’s key for women of all ages to feed their endocannabinoid system with CBD to restore balance and reduce mood changes, period cramping, or menopausal systems like hot flashes.
CBD Products I Used Before Ladykind CBD
I’ve tried nearly every type of CBD product on the market: CBD tinctures, CBD gummies, CBD lotions, CBD wrinkle creams, CBD bath bombs, CBD suppositories, and CBD lip balms. I’ve tried hundreds of brands too, from Soul CBD to FOCL to Real Wellness. I have to say Ladykind’s Tough Love CBD topical is the only CBD topical I’ve found that makes level 10 period cramps go away, and their tinctures are superior in ways that I’ll talk about later in this review.
These are the main ways I test a CBD tincture:
- Is the flavor good, too sweet, too earthy (hempy), or too artificial (like cough syrup flavor)?
- Is the tincture in a clear bottle, exposing it to light and degrading the CBD product, or is it in a dark or completely opaque light-sensitive bottle?
- If it’s marketed for daytime or focus, does it actually increase the amount of words I write for a blog post in an hour? Does it make me sleepy instead of focused?
- If it’s marketed for nightime, relaxation, or anxiety relief, does it actually make me feel relaxed or sleepy? Is it a good alternative to a glass of wine? Or do I feel nothing, even if I’m super stressed out?
These are the main questions I ask when I test a CBD topical:
- Does the topical have a weird smell (aka chemical, overly menthol, or too earthy aka smells like weed? Would it be safe to wear to work without the boss asking for a drug test?
- Does the topical have a good consistency, or is it so waxy it’s hard to scoop up from the container and rub into the skin?
- Is the topical too oily, doesn’t absorb into the skin, and can rub off on clothes or bedding?
- Does it help reduce my back pain, cramps, carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands and wrists from typing too much, or fibromyalgia pain in my calves and feet? Each are different types of pain, and some CBD creams penetrate deeper than others.
- How long does it provide relief for? How often to I need to reapply?
My Honest Ladykind CBD Review
Ladykind reached out to be prior to their launch to get feedback from me on their first three products. As a neuroscientist, author of books like
Even though I’m regularly listed as one of the top 10 CBD influencers in the industry, Ladykind knows that I’m not a big fan of most of the CBD products out there, and refuse to promote a CBD brand that doesn’t work or isn’t right for my audience just for a paycheck. Integrity matters when it comes to your health, and many CBD brands, and CBD influencers, are missing it. When I vet a product, I vet the company and the team behind it as much as the product itself. A great product is worthless if their heart isn’t in the right place. Ladykind has amazing products, a fabulous team, and a mission worth sharing, as I’ll describe in this Ladykind CBD review.

Ladykind tinctures are made from broad spectrum CBD extracts, meaning they have CBD and minor cannabinoids and terpenes, but no THC. That means you won’t have to worry about ever failing a drug test. What makes their products stand out is that their novel formulations. They combine CBD with other novel cannabinoids like CBG or CBN to get the powerful “entourage effect” of multiple cannabinoids working together, and also include other potent vitamins and natural supplements.
Ladykind Tough Love Pain Relieving Cream
I have a love/hate relationship with CBD topicals. When they are formulated properly and work, they are amazing for pain relief, whether it’s rubbing on your pelvis for menstrual cramps, your back, your neck, your aching feet, or your forehead for migraines. However, most of the industry either doesn’t put enough CBD in it for it to work, doesn’t have essential oils to help it penetrate deep in the muscle where your nerves hurt, or has it has a greasy film that causes an
Period pain is no joke
For those of you who don’t know, I have had extremely painful periods and ovarian cysts my entire life, with cramps so bad I used to pass out in public and wake up in a hospital. NOTE: this is not normal, if this is your life please see a ob/gyn that will listen to your pain concerns and get you a diagnosis like endometriosis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), adenomyosis, etc, and start a treatment for you.
Over the years, I was able to manage my chronic pelvic pain with plant medicine including CBD, cannabis,
Using plants instead of pills worked for me, but it doesn’t have to be either one or the other. In fact, many women safely use CBD in addition to the treatments their doctors have prescribed in order to manage their pelvic pain without taking stronger medications like opioids. I encourage you to talk with your doctor before starting any new supplement or lifestyle change, including CBD. CBD topicals are the safest way to take CBD, as there is no chance it will interact with any medications you are taking, and it won’t get into your bloodstream.
My experience with Ladykind Tough Love Pain Relieving CBD Cream
Ok, so let’s get to the good stuff. How did Ladykind CBD Tough Love Pain Relieving Cream work? I actually received my Ladykind box on Day 2 of my period, which is usually a pretty awful day where I lay on my heating pad all day cursing my life and eating any CBD or cannabis edibles I have in the house and praying to just fall asleep out of pain. If this day falls on a work day, (and it did), I usually email my clients a lame excuse cancelling all my appointments for a Sick Day, which is a bummer because not only am I in a world of pain, but I’m also not making any money!
I literally ripped open the Ladykind box, opened the jar of Tough Love, and immediately rubbed it all over my pelvis and my back. I then hopped back into bed with my two heating pads on my back and pelvis and prayed that this would work. I didn’t even read the ingredient label, so I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to feel minty/burny like a CBD menthol cream (it doesn’t have menthol, peppermint oil, or eucalyptus oil, so spoiler alert: it didn’t have that effect).
What did happen…in about five minutes my uterus went from crazy painful nonstop cramping to stopping cramping. It was like being on the beach and see the waves go from hurricane crazy to low tide. Yes, my pelvis and back still hurt five minutes in, but the cramping, which is what keeps me in bed instead of sitting up on my computer had stopped. I got brave, got out of bed, and took my heating pads to my home office and tried to check my work emails.
I started working on some tasks, and realized a whole hour had gone by without me being distracted by pain! I had gone from a level 10 in pelvic and back pain to a level 4 at most in an hour. My period pain was greatly reduced for 6 hours, and after that I reapplied the lotion and the full cramping and pain relief kicked back in. I found taking the LadyKind Wind Down CBD Tincture (yes the “nighttime” one) under the tongue while I had the CBD cream on my pelvis brought my pain down to a 1…aka non-existent! I might have yelled Hallelujah and thanked God for Ladykind. Being pain-free after a level 10 day is the kind of relief that will bring tears of joy to your eye.

I did feel like the Ladykind CBD cream was more effective for the pelvic cramping and pelvic pain than back pain. This might have been because the CBD cream contains cramp bark, which is super effective for menstrual cramps, as opposed to back pain, which can be nerve or joint pain related. To be honest, I might still use a CBD menthol cream or THC balm for severe back pain, rather than the Ladykind Tough Love CBD Cream, because those options were cheaper and I want to save the good stuff (Ladykind) for where it works best, my period cramps.
Hands down Ladykind Tough Love CBD cream is now my go-to for pelvic pain and menstrual cramps. There is zero reason for me to use any other CBD product, because they were only at best 25% as effective as Ladykind’s product. For me, time lost to chronic pelvic pain or period cramps is lost money, and I’m actually saving money by having less woman “sick days” when I buy Ladykind Tough Love CBD cream.
A deeper review of Ladykind CBD cream after my pain had worn off
So after my pain had eased up I was in the right headspace to do things like a read packaging or the label on the jar. I was actually excited to learn more about the LadyKind CBD lotion because it had worked in a way that none of the other CBD topicals I had use for period pain had.
One of the ways Ladykind CBD pain relieving cream is different is because it contains 4% lidocaine. You might be familiar with lidocaine if you’ve ever used an aloe vera gel with lidocaine to stop sunburn pain, or if you’ve used a lidocaine transdermal patch for back pain. Lidocaine is an effective chemical for “numbing” and stopping pain. It’s strong stuff, but absolutely necessary when you’re dealing with painful period pain. To be honest, I haven’t seen any other CBD topical lotions with lidocaine in it, and it could be the reason why I found this CBD product more effective than the hundreds of other topical lotions I have tried.
So what about how Ladykind CBD cream smells, looks, and feels? I sniffed it! Ladykind CBD cream had a neutral smell. Not earthy like cannabis, not chemically, not minty or menthol, and not floral or lavender. It is definitely something I could wear to work without getting looks like I’m just smoked weed, and it wouldn’t bother my clients with autoimmune disorders who might be sensitive to strong smells.
The consistency of the Ladykind CBD lotion was on point. It was easy to scoop up out of the jar, it glided on and absorbed quickly with no greasy film. It felt like more of a beauty cream than a typical CBD lotion, as it also had this appealing peachy light pink color too it. Other CBD brands have a sports cream look and smell to them, which is cool if you’re a football player rubbing lotion on your injured calve, but odd if you’re a woman just trying to relieve your period cramps. All around, Ladykind felt like it was made for women and that using this product was an act of self-care for me.
The science behind the ingredients
There’s more than CBD in Ladykind’s Touch Love Pain Relieving Cream. It also contains cramp bark, turmeric, lidocaine, licorice root, lavender oil, and many other healing oils and plant extract.
Here’s what why these ingredients are amazing for pelvic, back, and abdominal pain:
- Cramp Bark – used to reduce pain and spasms from menstrual cramps.
- Turmeric – a spice that contains the active ingredient curcumin, known for reducing inflammation, relieving pain, and reducing uterine cramping.
- Lidocaine – anesthetic clinically effective at reducing pain topically.
- Licorice Root – anti-inflammatory plant with many traditional uses including reducing hot flashes during menopause.
- Lavender Oil – essential oil helpful for reducing pain, cramping, and anxiety.
Ladykind Rise Up Daily Mind Clearing Tincture
What’s nice about this tincture is it works great if you drop it under the tongue as a sublingual, but it can also be dropped into your morning coffee or tea instead for extra energy.
A full dropper of the Ladykind Rise Up Tincture contains 16 mg of CBD + CBG, which is the dose I recommend if you’re an experienced CBD user. If you’re new to CBD, I suggest trying a half-dropper for a week until your body adjusts to it. If you’re an experience user and weigh over 200 pounds, you might want to take 1 1/2 to 2 full droppers as CBD is fat soluble and body weight can impact dosing.
If you’re an early riser, you might want to take one dose of Ladykind’s Rise Up Tincture in the morning, and another at lunchtime. CBD oil can clear out of your system in 4-6 hours depending on your genetics and liver health, so one dose might not be enough for some people. Because this tincture can increase energy and alertness, it’s not recommended to take at night. Instead, use the Ladykind Wind Down Tincture at night.
My experience with Ladykind Rise Up CBD Tincture
The packing of the tincture blew me away. It was pretty and feminine, and honored the cannabis plant in a classy, plant lady way. I was happy that the tincture bottle was opaque, so that I could have the bottle sitting out on my desk, and not worry that light hitting the bottle was going to make the CBD less effective. So many other companies go for pretty see through bottles that inactivate the product. Who wants to pay $50 or more for a CBD bottle that doesn’t work? Thankfully, this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the genius of Ladykind.
The tincture had an unexpected taste: light, floral, feminine. That flavor came many of the natural herbs infused in the CBD oil that also lent additional medicinal benefits. No nasty bubblegum or overpowering mint flavor. Just this empowering floral burst in your mouth that made you feel like you were starting your day honoring your inner goddess.
So how did the daytime Ladykind CBD tincture work? I took one dropper of Ladykind Rise Up Tincture exclusively in the morning for two weeks. I felt less stressed and more motivated to start tackling my very long to-do list. I’ll be honest, I still chugged my morning cup of coffee, but felt less wired and anxious and afterwards. CBD is an adaptogen which can help mitigate some of the harmful effects of caffeine like anxiety or fast heartbeat.
Did I get more stuff done on LadyKind CBD? Yes! I was checking off tasks in my Asana project management platform like a boss. I felt calm and collected while crushing it. A nice bonus was that my fibromyalgia pain was hardly noticeable in the background, instead of the pain distracting me from doing my work.
Overall, I am definitely switching from my previous stock of CBD brands that I couldn’t tell whether they were working or not (I think I’m less stressed? Should I double the dose? Triple it?) to Ladykind’s Rise Up Tincture. It’s a no brainer for managing stress and crushing it at work, even if you’ve got brain fog or ADHD.

My hubby’s experience with LadyKind CBD
FYI, Ladykind products aren’t just for women. My husband tried the Rise Up CBD Tincture and loved it. He felt way more awake and his ADHD brain felt less scatterbrained. I had to hide the bottle from him until I could order more!
The science behind the ingredients
There’s more than CBD in Ladykind’s Rise Up Tincture. It also contains another cannabinoid cannabigerol (CBG), vitamin B5, and superfood Maca Root. Other ingredients that rounds out this one-of-a-kind formula include guarana, spearmint, damiana, green tea, panax ginseng, and turmeric.
Here’s what why these ingredients are amazing for focus and energy without the crash:
- CBG – cannabigerol, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that can reduce inflammation, relax muscles, and boost new brain cell growth, also known as neurogenesis.
- Vitamin B5 – also known as pantothenic acid, this B vitamin is required for making new red blood cells and converting food into energy.
- Maca Root – this superfood native to Peru can boost mood, enhance workout performance, increase memory, and even reduce symptoms of menopause like hot flashes.
- Guarana – this Brazilian plant contains caffeine and may improve memory and athletic performance.
- Spearmint – this minty tasting plant is rich in the terpene limonene and may help with fatigue and stress.
- Damiana – a tropical herb that can boost mood and improve physical stamina.
- Green Tea – contains caffeine for energy as well as antioxidants that protect the brain and improve focus.
- Panax Ginseng – an Asian plant that may improve memory and reduce fatigue.
- Turmeric – a spice that contains the active ingredient curcumin, known for reducing inflammation, relieving pain, and increasing levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which can improve memory.
- MCT Oil – medium chain triglycerides come from coconut oil and have many health benefits, including reducing inflammation and providing a quick burst of energy.
Ladykind Wind Down Nightly Mind Relaxing Tincture
A full dropper of the Ladykind Wind Down Tincture contains 25 mg of CBD + CBN, which is the dose I recommend if you’re an experienced CBD user using it at night. If you’re new to CBD, I suggest trying a half-dropper for a week until your body adjusts to it. If you’re an experience user and weigh over 200 pounds, you might want to take 1 1/2 droppers as CBD is fat soluble and body weight can impact dosing.
It’s not recommended to take the Wind Down CBD Tincture during the day unless you have seriously high pain or anxiety levels. The CBN and melatonin could put normal people into nap mode fast! I’ve been able to take the Wind Down Tincture during the day instead of THC products on my really bad period pain days or days where my fibromyalgia flares up, but most days I used the Ladykind Rise Up Tincture during the day and the Wind Down Tincture at night.
My experience with Ladykind Wind Down CBD Tincture
The packaging was cute just like the Rise Up Tincture. Both the boxes and the bottles look very similar, so make sure you read the label carefully so you don’t accidentally use the nighttime tincture in the morning and vice versa. The taste of the Ladykind Wind Down tincture was very similar to Rise Up Tincture, light and floral.
So how did the Ladykind Wind Down CBD Tincture work? I’ve been using the night time tincture about 30 minutes before bed for two weeks. Normally it takes about 10-15 minutes for sublingual CBD products to work when you drop it under your tongue and hold it there for 30-60 seconds. If you swallow it accidentally without holding it, or drop it in you chamomile tea, it can take 30 minutes to work because it has to be digested through your gut.
My nightly ritual is cracking open a book, sometimes on my Kindle. Ladykind helps me actually turn off my racing thoughts for the day and enjoy the book. The CBD oil tincture also helps me drift to sleep instead of being wired and having to finish the book in one sitting. Ladykind CBD tincture also mutes whatever fibromyalgia leg pain aching I’m feeling so that it doesn’t keep me up while I’m trying to go to sleep.
I love that I don’t wake up groggy or with a “hangover” with Ladykind Wind Down CBD tincture. If you’ve ever used a sleeping pill, a bottle of wine, or a THC gummy to get to sleep, you know that feeling of not really feeling your best in the morning. That simply doesn’t happen with this CBD formula. You wake up refreshed and ready to conquer your day (and especially with your morning dose of Rise Up Tincture!).
I’m going to continue to keep using the Ladykind Wind Down CBD Tincture each night, as it’s more effective than any of the other CBD tinctures I’ve used, including ones specifically marketed for “sleep” or relaxation. It just works with my chemistry. What I love is even after 14 days, I haven’t had to increase the dose. Just one dropper does it for me, and I fall asleep quickly and don’t wake up until morning. No more shouting in my sleep, tossing and turning, or waking up to pee in the middle of the night! I love my Ladykind Wind Down Tincture.

The science behind the ingredients
There’s more than CBD in Ladykind’s Wind Down Tincture. It also contains another cannabinoid cannabinol (CBN), valerian root, and melatonin. Other ingredients that rounds out this one-of-a-kind formula include magnesium, black cohosh, holy basil, panax ginseng, ashwagandha, and maca root.
Here’s what why these ingredients are amazing for relaxation, sleep, and even nighttime pain relief:
- CBN – cannabinol, a rare phytocannabinoid that may promote sleep, reduce pain, and lower inflammation levels.
- Valerian Root – an herb used to relax muscles, reduce anxiety, and promote sleep. It may also have benefits for women with menstrual cramps, PMS, or hot flashes from menopause.

Beautiful Packaging For a Women’s CBD Brand
