Quitting drugs is a lengthy and demanding journey. Very few can make it through the full transition without relapsing and falling back. While several patients fail due to their weak willpower, others fail to contain their urge due to medical-assisted therapies’ ineffectiveness.

The most common drug withdrawal medications, including suboxone and methadone, are highly addictive because they mimic addictive drugs’ effects. It is hardly surprising that these offer drug addicts little or no benefits.

However, with advancements in medical research, several natural substances have come up, claiming to offer promising results with addiction recovery. Two of these most popular substances are cannabis and kratom.

In this post, we will go through some of the vital benefits of the two and look at different ways to assist the addiction recovery.

Most Common Symptoms of Drug Withdrawal

Different individuals experience different kinds of symptoms. This also depends on the type of drug one is addicted to. Some of the most common symptoms that usually manifest in people are:

  • Neurological symptoms like seizures, tremors, and motor coordination troubles
  • Digestive and gastrointestinal problems, such as vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea
  • Restlessness
  • Sleeping disorders and insomnia
  • Flu-like symptoms along with headaches and body aches
  • Anxiety, stress, and depression
Cannabis plant containing CBD can help addiction

Ways in which Cannabis and Kratom Help with Addiction Recovery

1. Relief from stress and anxiety

Stress and anxiety are the most common symptoms of drug withdrawal. Many studies have concluded the effectiveness of cannabis in reducing stress levels.

Cannabinoids obtained from cannabis can promote relaxation, ease stress, and reduce anxiety. One cannabinoid, called CBD, binds to a neurotransmitter receptor called serotonin. Low levels of serotonin contribute to high levels of stress. So by interacting with the serotonin receptors, CBD helps to relieve stress.

Wherein, kratom can help to alleviate anxiety through its most active ingredient mitragynine. The ingredient communicates with opioid receptors in the brain, causing pain relief and reduced anxiety. White vein kratom is a particular strain of this substance that you can specifically use for treating anxiety.

2. Relief from pain

Recent researches have shown a positive relationship between cannabis and pain relief. Cannabidiol or CBD, a cannabis-byproduct, can affect the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

The ECS is a network of cannabinoid receptors present in the human body. This system regulates various body functions, including mood regulation, inflammation, and pain relief.

Many times, the body’s ECS system may not offer effective relief from pain. By consuming cannabinoids from an external source, the ECS system gets reinforced, providing faster pain relief.

On the other hand, kratom contains two active ingredients, mitragynine, and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Both these bind to the pain receptors in the brain and central nervous system, which can offer effective pain relief.

3. Treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders

There is a lot of scientific evidence that supports the effectiveness of cannabis in treating insomnia and other sleep-related disorders. It acts as a natural sleep aid by restoring a person’s sleep cycle. Apart from that, it helps to treat chronic pain in patients and promote sound sleep. Additionally, NuLeaf Naturals CBD can help to improve the quality of sleep by reducing the amount of time spent in the REM phase.

REM is short for Rapid Eye Movement, and is the stage of sleep where you have dreams. In some patients with anxiety or PTSD, there are extremely vivid dreams and nightmares that can actually impair the quality of sleep or cause a person to dread going to sleep . Cannabis can shorten the REM phase, reduce nightmares, and promote more peaceful sleep.

As for kratom, there is little evidence that shows its effectiveness in inducing sound sleep. However, specific strains of the substance, such as Red Vein Borneo, can eliminate erratic sleeping patterns.

4. Treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders

Many patients experience severe GI complications, including nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting from drug withdrawal. These symptoms primarily occur because the brain has to regulate the changes in the body’s neurotransmitters.

Both cannabis and kratom are known for incredible analgesic properties. They offer quick relief from abdominal pains that are severe and persistent. They are a much better option than traditional pain relievers and help eliminate aggravating symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting.

5. Treatment of seizures

A handful of reports have revealed the positive effect of cannabis on managing seizures. In 2018, the FDA approved the use of Epidiolex (a CBD formulation) for treating seizures in patients suffering from Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS).

The potent anti-seizure properties of cannabis have made it a popular treatment option for managing substance abuse. On the other hand, the sedative properties of kratom may also help reduce seizures and other related problems.

Wrapping Up

The above discussion points towards the multifarious benefits of cannabis and kratom in facilitating addiction recovery. However, two of these substances are not the silver bullet to drug withdrawal. The patient must take voluntary measures to abstain from the use of drugs and exercise self-discipline.

To include cannabis and kratom in your fight against drugs, you must consult your medical practitioner and understand the recommended dosage. Dr. Michele Ross is now available for consultations.

I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for I failed my annual mammogram. I was scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound to potentially look for breast cancer…and boy did this cause some scanxiety!Good news! There’s no lumps, bumps, cysts, tumors, etc. my tests are normal. So why did I flunk my first mammogram? It could have been a glitch. Or…Hormones can cause breast tissue to be slightly different from week to week or scan to scan, which is why they suggest not doing your scan the week before your period (which is when I got scanned). It can be hard for women to avoid that week though when appointments are often made months in advance.Either way, I’ll be back next year for my 3rd mammogram. I hope you’ll remember to schedule yours.#breastcancer #mammogram #annualmammogram #scanxiety #perimenopausehealth #womenover40
